When a potential customer searches for a local business, they no longer see only a list of websites. Google increasingly gathers information and presents maps, business profiles, ratings, comparisons and AI-generated answers.
This makes a company's Google Business Profile more than a digital business card. It is a structured source of information about what the company offers, where it is located and how customers have experienced it.
What we know from Google
Google also recommends complete business information, accurate categories, current photos and responses to reviews. These are not decorative extras. They help both Google and potential customers understand the business.
What changes with AI search?
Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode can run multiple related searches, compare sources and present links, places and specific recommendations. Google has already demonstrated local results in AI Mode that include ratings, reviews and opening hours.
That makes the following working hypothesis reasonable:
A complete business profile with many authentic customer experiences gives Google a stronger basis for finding, understanding and evaluating a local business.
But the hypothesis should not be presented as more certain than the evidence allows. Google does not say that the business with the most reviews will automatically appear first in an AI answer. Relevance, geography, website content, mentions and many other quality signals also play a part.
The practical connection

Current photos and clearly described services

More authentic customer reviews
↓
Greater credibility and stronger local visibility
↓
A better basis for being found and chosen
The important word is authentic. Reviews must be based on real experiences. They should not be bought, rewarded or written by people with a conflict of interest. A smaller collection of credible, specific reviews is more valuable than an artificial pattern that may undermine trust.
Five practical actions
- Check the business name, address, phone number, categories and opening hours.
- Add current photos that show the location, facilities or work.
- Describe the company's specific services in clear language.
- Regularly invite real customers to share their honest experience.
- Respond professionally to both positive and critical reviews.
Google makes it possible to create a direct review link or QR code. It can be included naturally in a closing email, on an invoice or after a successful customer interaction – without pressuring the customer to give a particular rating.
Start before competitors gain an advantage
There is no single shortcut to visibility in AI search. Google itself stresses that established SEO principles still apply: helpful content, technical accessibility, credibility and up-to-date information.
Google reviews already matter for local visibility and customer trust. As the search engine increasingly uses AI to compare and present businesses, managing the profile becomes more – not less – relevant.
The sensible approach is therefore to begin now: not to manipulate an algorithm, but to make the company's real quality visible and verifiable.
